IATSE Canada, with the generous support of the Canada Performing Arts Workers Resilience Fund, is excited to offer Fly Systems and Counterweight Rigging.

Time: 9:00PM – 5:00PM

Location: Yukon Arts Centre, 300 University Drive Whitehorse, Yukon

This day long training course with instructor Rick Boychuk focuses on the safe operation and maintenance of theatrical counterweight rigging systems.

Rick has been in the industry since 1977 and has served as TD, PM and designer (sets, lighting, costume). He is a member of IATSE Local 300 in Saskatoon. Now retired, Rick continues to do rigging system inspections and system design and consultation. He is currently consulting on an upgrade of the rigging in all the Arts and Culture Centres in Newfoundland and Labrador. 

Rick also teaches a Theatre History class at the University of Saskatchewan and is the author of the book  “Nobody Looks Up: The Counterweight Rigging System: 1500 to 1925”. 

This course is open to all performing arts workers and is being offered at no cost as part of the trainings the IATSE is providing through the Canada Performing Arts Workers Resilience Fund. To access this training free of charge, you must register through this link
